No. Omnivore is no longer available. The open-source read-later app shut down permanently in November 2024 after its team was acquihired by ElevenLabs. The hosted app is gone, the API is offline, and user data was deleted unless you exported it before the shutdown. There is no read-only mode and no recovery path.

Is Omnivore coming back?
There has been no sign of a hosted relaunch. The team moved to ElevenLabs, and the cloud service was deprecated in November 2024. The code is still on GitHub as a self-hosted, open-source project, with community and bug-fix activity continuing there. Self-hosting it is involved, though. It needs PostgreSQL, a search index, a content fetcher, and several services, so it is not a quick weekend setup.
What to do if you still have an export
If you saved an OPML or JSON export before the shutdown, you can import it into another app and keep your library. If you did not export in time, the data is gone and there is no way to pull it back from Omnivore.
Where to go next
Most former Omnivore users wanted the same few things: full-text search, an open API, and the ability to take their data with them. A couple of options cover that today.
- Gleamr gives you full-text search, a REST API, one-click Pocket import, and full JSON export. It is built around owning your data, which is the part Omnivore got right before it disappeared. See why it works as an Omnivore alternative.
- Readwise Reader is the closest match if you relied on Omnivore's Obsidian sync, since it has native Obsidian highlight sync. It costs more and has no permanent free tier.
If your main concern is not getting burned again, pick a tool with a clear way to export everything and a business model that pays for the servers.
Frequently asked questions
Is Omnivore still available in 2026?
No. Omnivore shut down permanently in November 2024. The hosted app and API are offline, and user data was deleted.
What happened to Omnivore?
The team was acquihired by ElevenLabs. The service had no revenue model and no value to the acquirer, so it was shut down and user data was deleted with about one month of notice.
Can I recover my Omnivore data now?
Only if you exported it before the shutdown. Omnivore deleted all user data when the service closed, so there is no recovery option from Omnivore itself.
What is the best Omnivore replacement?
Gleamr is the closest fit if you valued full-text search, an API, and data export. Readwise Reader is the better match if you specifically need native Obsidian sync.
